Film series: "From propaganda to educational tool? "Rubble films" in Germany in 1946"
80 years on, we are showing films that were released or produced in German cinemas in 1946. All screenings are preceded by a (film) historical introduction, followed by an opportunity to discuss what has been seen.
Our series starts with the film "Die Mörder sind unter uns". This is the earliest attempt to deal with the crimes of the Nazi era on film, touching on both the subject of the concentration camps and the countless war crimes. Wolfgang Staudte (1906-1984), who also came up with the idea and the screenplay, directed the film, which began shooting in Berlin in March 1946. The leading roles were played by Hildegard Knef (1925-2002), Wilhelm Borchert (1907-1990) and Arno Paulsen (1900-1969). But destroyed Berlin and its people also play a leading role.
