What kind of story is this - a heroic epic? A romantic drama? Or simply an exciting story about friendship and betrayal?
The play is a fast-paced drama about the warrior Siegfried, who - equipped with his magic hat - helps his new friend King Gunther find happiness in love and at the same time plunges him into ruin. For it is only through deception that Gunther succeeds in defeating Queen Brunhild and taking her home as his bride.
When the deception is revealed, disaster takes its course.
The production by director Rüdiger Pape and the ensemble was nominated for the German Theater Prize DER FAUST in 2006; three of the actors have been in the company since the premiere of this production. We have been watching them grow older in their roles for 18 years.
