In the organizer's words:
Over the past 35 years, the Kunstmuseum Erlangen has already built up a collection comprising more than 20,000 works. These include paintings, sculptures, photographs and a particularly extensive collection of works on paper - in addition to classic drawings and graphics, there are also a large number of comics, cartoons and caricatures. The collection focuses on post-1945 art by artists with a connection to Erlangen, the Franconian region and the Upper Palatinate.
Focusing on this regional art scene, the stylistic diversity of the collection is particularly noteworthy: in addition to figurative and constructive works, there are also many abstract, informal works in the collection, which is further expanded by political and socially critical art. The collection has grown and continues to grow, reflecting current and historical trends. The Kunstmuseum Erlangen is entrusted with several important artists' estates, which are being scientifically researched.
