Troy is defeated. But the war is not over as long as the dead still dwell in the hearts of the (over)living. And so Hecabe, the widow of the Trojan prince Priam, accuses the Greeks. However, the Greeks regard the women as booty that can be taken to Greece as slaves and lovers. Euripides' tragedy, first performed in 415 BC, harshly criticized Athens' imperial policy in the Mediterranean region. Above all, he placed women at the center of his accusation. The new Bremerhaven version emphasizes this aspect with specially composed music for the Stadttheater's opera choir.
