Over the past decade, DIIV have established themselves as one of rock music's most intriguing bands, exploring new textures while evolving their songwriting artistry in ways that continue to attract wider audiences around the world. They combine beauty and noise to the point of lush oblivion - a searing sound that builds on elements of dream-pop greats like My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive and Smashing Pumpkins. It's becoming increasingly difficult to establish a distinctive approach within pop music in general, and yet DIIV's sound and emotional tenor are unmistakably their own throughout their discography.
Emerging from Brooklyn's fertile DIY music scene in the early 2010s, DIIV quickly proved to be one of the city's most recognizable live acts and have since expanded their aesthetic with each subsequent release. Over the course of three albums, they've incorporated the propulsive gait of British guitar pop, the minimalist structures and motorik rhythms of German psychedelia, the lush fury of metal, and the sonic immersion of shoegaze into their inviting soundscape.
DIIV has an invigorating and immersive live presence and is firmly anchored in a deep legacy of boundary-pushing rock bands that continue to forge their own path. Their influence is felt in a new generation of artists chasing their own punishing fortunes, and has left a mark on shoegaze and guitar music as DIIV continues to cement their legacy as one of North America's most formidable rock acts.
The new DIIV album Frog In Boiling Water will be released on May 24th on Fantasy.
