At the Atomino, Ivo Dimchev transforms Johann Strauss' waltz into a collective escalation. Join in!
The choreographer, singer-songwriter and queer activist Ivo Dimchev brings together high and subculture, pop and Balkan folklore in his performances. In DI/Strauss technique, he transforms the intoxicating potential of Johann Strauss' music into a sweat-inducing musical workout with the audience. Based on the music of the Waltz King, Dimchev creates his own healing songs with which he conjures up different parts of the body.
The fact that the evening functions like a well-organized escalation depends on the audience. Invited to move collectively, the audience also has the opportunity to exchange ideas and break down inhibitions: Voices become louder, movements larger, shyness smaller and smaller. People talk to each other. Dimchev places themes such as self-love, money worries, sexual self-determination or emotional overload into the dancing-singing masses in order to immediately react to them artistically in divine absurdity. Never with a raised index finger. They are sung away, laughed away, rolled away.
DI/Strauss technique is above all this: a communal experience. A temporary society that allows itself to be imperfect for one evening. Operetta meets club, choir rehearsal meets dance floor. Those who come in rarely leave unchanged. Not a didactic play. Not a feel-good promise. It's a systematic collective freak-out. A waltz that gets out of hand.
