Dixie Five: Around Hard Bop

Dixie Five dedicate themselves to the repertoire of Cannonball Adderley and expand it with exciting musical connections from his environment. Thus, well-known hard bop classics meet pieces that are closely linked to the jazz history of the time. The saxophonist Cannonball Adderley founded his legendary quintet together with his brother Nat Adderley in 1959 and played a decisive role in shaping hard bop. The program also includes special highlights such as Solar by Miles Davis and the rarely played Scotch 'n Water by Joe Zawinul, who himself played piano in the Adderley Quintet. With Stefan Groh (trombone), Dieter Guntermann (saxophone), Axel Kaapke (piano), Jörg Mühlhaus (bass) and Martin Kowollik (drums), the result is a lively, style-conscious and at the same time modern approach to hard bop - with a lot of joy in playing and a clear reference to jazz history.
