DJ WORKSHOP (Beginners)

Curious about DJing and ready to give it a try yourself?

This beginner-friendly workshop is your first real step behind the decks. In 90 minutes, DNA. member CZECH STRINGS—a multi-genre DJ with over 10 years of experience—will walk you through everything you need to know to create your first mix. No prior knowledge of DJing, music theory, or equipment is required. None at all.

The session starts with the basics: what a DJ actually does, what their role is, and how it all comes together. From there, CZECH STRINGS explains the gear using the turntables available on-site as a live example—knowledge that applies to any DJ setup you might encounter in the future.

‍

You’ll learn the core technical skills needed for your first transition:

•  Beatmatching — how to align two tracks in tempo
• Cueing — how to prepare the next track for a seamless transition
• Track structure and phrasing — understanding how tracks are built so you know when to mix

‍

EQUIPMENT:

We’ll be using aPioneer DJ XDJ-RR, which works with USB drives and Rekordbox.

WHAT YOU NEED:

Nothing is required. If you’d like to bring your own music on a USB drive, you’re welcome to, but it will only work if the drive is formatted as MS-DOS (FAT) / FAT32 and the tracks have been analyzed in Rekordbox beforehand. If that doesn’t mean anything to you right now, don’t worry. There’s plenty of music ready to go.

GET YOUR HANDS ON THE DECKS:

This isn’t just a demonstration. Part of the workshop is dedicated to hands-on practice, giving you the opportunity to step behind the decks and try the techniques yourself.

No previous DJ experience is required.

‍

Start where you are. Learn the basics. Find your sound.
