Look forward to an exclusive premiere of the 30-minute documentary "Zwischen Badespaß und Lebensgefahr", in which lifeguards in Barcelona, the water police in Masuria and an adult non-swimmer in Bremen were accompanied. They all have one important thing in common: they want to prevent death by swimming.

The film will be followed by a discussion with the filmmakers and lifeguards!

About the documentary:

In Europe, around 15,000 people die in the water every year. The most beautiful beaches become a place of horror when bathers are pulled out to sea by invisible currents. Rescue team David Leal, Pablo Carretero and Ivan Yuste are on duty in the Mediterranean: using a rescue drone and jet skis, they try to keep an eye on the sea and the crowds of people on the beach of Puerto de Sagunto north of Valencia. Because people usually drown quietly and unnoticed.

Artur Sangin moved to Masuria out of love for the water, but his work as a water police officer has changed his perception: Lakes are no longer a vacation paradise for him, but a place of danger. Poland is one of the countries in Europe with the highest number of drowning deaths. The report accompanies Artur and his colleague Mateusz Libera on their patrols across the lake district. Their area of responsibility covers over 100 lakes, but they can only concentrate on the three largest. Alcohol consumption coupled with overconfidence are common here. Many people underestimate their own swimming ability. In Germany, too, the figures are alarming: more than 3.5 million young people and adults cannot swim at all. But learning to swim is not that easy: more and more swimming pools are suffering from a refurbishment backlog and a shortage of skilled staff. Abiba Guera has found a beginners' course for adults in Bremen and is facing up to her fear of the water. She was once scared to death for her son in the sea - she doesn't want that to happen again.
