Double concert as part of the 48th Leipzig Jazz Days
Tell me... how! Tell me why! Tell me more! As every year, the festival program revolves around a theme: the focus is on the art of "storytelling" and, in particular, the human voice, which sometimes with and sometimes without words, but always in dialogue with virtuoso instrumental playing, has all kinds of things to tell...
Marek Johnson
Marek Johnson is less a person than an embodiment of constellations, consisting of historical references, present experiences and future ideas. For the production of "Mumbling On The Floor", David Helm retreated with Wanja Slavin to his house in the woods. Accompanied by a soundtrack of dreampop, indie, sixties folk and trip hop, we walk with them along winding paths as the fleeting magic of Kammerpsychedelica spreads.
Line-up:
David Helm (voc, b, g, p)
Wanja Slavin (synth, sax)
Shannon Barnett (voc, p, tb)
Bertram Burkert (g)
Hanno Stick (dr)
WRENS
"Why not?" is the central question at the heart of the musical work of Brooklyn-based band WRENS. On their first release "alligator shoes [on flatbush]", the quartet mixes lyrical rap parts with a sound that is schooled in jazz and at the same time points far beyond it: electronica, hip hop and an almost endless desire to experiment characterize the spirited WRENS cosmos.
Line-up:
Elias Stemeseder (p, keys)
Jason Nazary (dr, synth)
Lester St Louis (clo)
Ryan Easter (tp, voc)
