What It Was Like Back Then and What's Going On Today

Explore and savor Dortmund’s “beery” soul: On this tour, you’ll follow in the footsteps of the city’s significant beer tradition, which dates back over 700 years. From the era of industrialization through the 1950s and 60s—when Dortmund became Europe’s beer capital—to the present day, when a lot is being done to revive Dortmund’s former glory. And you can see for yourself just how good it is during this tour.

Where are we going?

We’ll start at the Dortmunder U Tower, which has been the venue for the Dortmund Beer Festival since 2016. After a brief stop in the lobby of the Unique Hotel—formerly the headquarters of Brau und Brunnen—we’ll head to the Hövels Hausbrauerei. Passing the Bierkutscher monument and walking down Brauhausstraße, we’ll first reach the original building of the Stade Brewery and finally the “Wenkers” cellar at the Alter Markt.
