DOWNTOWN BOYS - "Public Luxury" Tour 2026
In the organizer's words:
The most radical and danceable political punk band in the U.S. is coming to Trier for a one-night-only show in Germany! Once hailed by*Rolling Stone*as “America’s Most Exciting Punk Band,” the quintet from Providence, Rhode Island, delivers a live show that keeps everyone on their feet. Their sound is an explosive mix of punk rock, post-punk, and furious indie rock—fueled by razor-sharp, bilingual lyrics (English/Spanish) about social justice, anti-racism, and queer pride
Since their formation, theDOWNTOWN BOYShave tirelessly evolved as both an artistic and political project. Singer Victoria Marie and guitarist and singer Joey La Neve DeFrancesco met at union meetings while working together at a hotel in Providence, Rhode Island, and wrote many of the band’s early songs about union organizing and exploitative working conditions. The quintet is rounded out by Joe DeGeorge (saxophone/synthesizer), Mary Jane Regalado (bass), and Joey Doubek (drums). Through years of touring and with three acclaimed albums, including 2015’s *Full Communism* and *Cost of Living*, their 2017 Sub Pop debut, the Downtown Boys have continued to evolve as artists and musicians.
Now the band has released “Public Luxury,” a captivating album that centers on politics while showcasing the band’s most intense and powerful sound to date. The definition of “Public Luxury” closely aligns with that of the title of the band’s second LP, *Full Communism*. Put simply, “Public Luxury” means “everything for everyone.” It is the stubborn insistence that a better world is possible, while fully acknowledging the horrors we experience every day, as well as the individual and collective responsibility to resist the nihilism and hopelessness we all feel.
‘Public Luxury’ was produced by DeFrancesco together with sound engineer and longtime supporter of theDOWNTOWN BOYS, Seth Manchester (Lambrini Girls, Lightning Bolt, Model/Actriz), at the “Machines With Magnets” studio and art space in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
