Dreamers I QFFM
In the organizer's words:
A gripping drama about friendship, love and the longing for freedom.
Isio has fled Nigeria to live as a lesbian in the UK, as homosexuality is illegal in Nigeria. But when Isio is caught without papers after two years, she has to go to a deportation center. She hopes for a fair asylum procedure if she follows the rules, even though the other women living there quickly make it clear to her that it won't work out that way. Isio shares a room with Farah and soon they begin to feel more for each other and think about how they can get out of here and lead a dignified life as a lesbian couple.
In her tender and powerful cinematic debut, Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor tells from her own experience how difficult it is to be granted asylum as a homosexual and migrant in a country like Great Britain. But the focus is on the community of women and the confidence of a life in freedom.
