After a successful headline tour in the fall and appearances at indie favorites such as Haldern Pop or Reeperbahn Festival, Dressed Like Boys returns to Germany next May. He will be bringing his debut album "Dressed Like Boys" with him, which was released in August and moves between shimmering 70s aesthetics and poignant vocals.
Belgian musician Jelle Denturck, as Dressed Like Boys is known by his real name, has made a name for himself in recent years as the singer of indie rock band DIRK. with heavier sounds. But in the band context, the former philosophy student was never able to give too many personal insights or think his thoughts through to the end. A solo project was needed - and so Dressed Like Boys was born. A project that emerged from a moment of hopelessness in which the Belgian had the feeling of being stuck. Detached from DIRK., he succeeded in reflecting on intimate thoughts and packaging them in poetic lyrics and a softer sound palette. The timeless singer/songwriter sound is inspired by legendary artists such as Elton John, David Bowie, John Lennon, Nina Simone and Sufjan Stevens. Denturck combines elements of the 70s with a modern pop sound, allowing himself to sound softer and yet powerful. From odes to his homeland to dark times after the death of his mother and addiction among his friends, his eponymous debut album (August 2025) depicts important episodes in the life of the singer/songwriter. Dressed Like Boys also explores his identity as a queer man on the album and highlights important moments in queer history with songs such as "Jaouad" and "Stonewall Riots Forever".
Whether with his band behind him or alone at the piano, Dressed Like Boys is particularly impressive on stage with his voice and the approachability with which he conveys the stories. In May 2026, visitors to several German cities will once again be able to see for themselves and be captivated by Dressed Like Boys and his band.
