Duvalar - Mauern - Walls

In spring 2013, the Dostluk Sineması initiative in Keupstraße organized a series of films and events entitled "From the fall of the Berlin Wall to the nail bomb". It traced a line from the pogroms and attacks of the 1990s to the NSU murders and attacks and the nail bomb attack in Keupstraße. The focus was on reports and analyses of racism. In the tea rooms, cafés and restaurants of Keupstraße, those affected and eyewitnesses spoke about the nail bomb attack. How did they experience the attack? How did they experience the police investigation and the media reports? And how has the climate on Keupstraße changed since then?

To mark the 20th anniversary of the NSU nail bomb attack on Keupstraße, we are showing a film that was also shown on Keupstraße in 2013. DUVALAR - WALLS - MAUERN (D 2000) documents the period of change from a migrant perspective. Film student Can Candan traveled to Berlin in 1991 to capture the impressions of Turkish migrants.

About the film: Duvalar - Mauern - Walls
Director Can Candan interviewed Turkish migrants in Berlin in 1991 about the fall of the Berlin Wall. The result is a unique contemporary document of the fall of the Wall: a migrant view of the fall of the Wall, which became an attack on the existence of this community in Germany.
