Peg Boog (Diane Wiest) is an Avon product consultant. She travels to a quiet suburb to sell creams and lipsticks to women. However, with customer demand approaching zero, Peg decides to pay a visit to the dark castle perched on a hill at the edge of the small town - maybe she'll have better luck there. In the attic of the unlocked mansion, she finds a creature in a leather suit. The artificially created human, whose inventor (Vincent Price) left him unfinished and alone in the large estate with scissors as makeshift hands, seems intimidated and lonely. The kind-hearted Peg's caring streak is immediately awakened and she decides to take the shy Edward (Johnny Depp) into town with her. In the uneventful suburb, the arrival of the different boy is a sensation and when Edward turns out to be a real gardening and hairdressing artist with his scissor hands, the suburbanites are absolutely delighted with him. But then Edward falls in love with Peg's daughter Kim (Winona Ryder)...
