A Midsummer Night's Dream, after William Shakespeare

A wild ride through all human emotions, condensed into one eventful night. The young lovers wander through the forest: Lysandra loves Hermia, Demetrius wants Hermia for himself and nobody really likes Helena at first. But this game soon turns around, arranged by the fairy king Oberon and his servant Puck, who generously handles a love juice. Originally, Oberon only wants to use this potion to get one over on his wife Titania by making her fall in love with a real donkey under his spell. The donkey is left over from the craftsmen who, to make matters worse, are roaming the forest to rehearse their play for the big wedding of Theseus and Hippolyta.

Amidst all this chaos, there is of course no shortage of fun, but there are also serious and romantic moments in this play. Nowhere has Shakespeare's tried and tested constellation of characters been so complexly and turbulently interwoven as here. His best-known and probably most frequently performed comedy has rightly been so successful for centuries. Nevertheless, there is of course always something new to discover, because theater is alive where texts and characters are brought to life by people who love to play. This year, the youth club is taking up the challenge of bringing A Midsummer Night's Dream to life for you in the romantic courtyard of the Hofspielhaus.
