Reading & Performance

As Microphone Mafia, Rossi Pennino and Kutlu Yurtseven have been writing their experiences and their view of the world on beats for several decades now - and they are always political. As artists and activists, they address issues such as the lives of migrant workers in Germany, social conditions, racism and anti-racist struggles. The collaboration with Auschwitz survivor Esther Bejarano († 2021) and her son Joram was also important.

As a multilingual rap crew, Microphone Mafia not only provided a mouthpiece for communities in the diaspora, but also inspired the German music scene in the long term. Anger, disappointment and solidarity find expression in the rhymes they bring to the stage.

Kutlu will read part of this moving story from his book "Eine ehrenwerte Familie: Die Microphone Mafia - Mehr als nur Musik" and discuss it with us. New musical territory with attitude has always been his thing - we are looking forward to the subsequent joint performance with DJ Aromateeq, herself an artist and activist from Cologne.

As part of the Music NRW Women network, she actively campaigns against all forms of discrimination and is committed to a more inclusive music world.

In 2024, she founded the Aromabeats DJ Space, an initiative that promotes Bipoc FLINTA in particular in DJing and offers workshops for absolute beginners. With the aim of promoting diversity and equal opportunities in the music scene.
