Operetta pokes fun at pretty much everything: politics, art, human relationships - above all at itself. As the proud queen of the art of entertainment, operetta concentrates on putting a smile on the faces of the audience. Not because entertainment theater makes no reference to social or socio-political reality - quite the opposite, especially in the 19th century, when operetta was a kind of mass communication channel, like television or social media today. Operetta dares to break taboos and address topics with a wink - certainly without going into too much depth or taking them too seriously.

Operetta jokes are never subject to political correctness. They are cheeky, courageous, fearless and unrestrained, just like the heroes of operettas: they are bold and relaxed, make themselves vulnerable and don't give a damn about gender-sensitive forms of expression. They are likeable vagabonds, seemingly innocent fishermen's girls, reckless and unscrupulous scoundrels, proud, grand-man addicted fake barons and princesses - and every now and then they just want to "do something foolish". But genius is not far removed from trivial: how liberating is this moral ambivalence, this uncensored operetta nonsense, but also the parodic, light-hearted treatment of clichés and social problems!

This operetta evening moves between Vienna and Budapest: soloists from the Aalto Musiktheater, together with the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra and the opera choir, dedicate themselves to Austro-Hungarian operettas by Johann Strauss, Emmerich Kálmán, Karl Millöcker, Franz Lehár and others. and perform arias, duets, ensembles and, above all, catchy tunes and delicacies from classics such as "Die Fledermaus" and "Der Bettelstudent": lively, humorous, lively and dancey and always silly and frivolous. Without jokes.
