Statement from the organizers:
We - the above-mentioned supporting organizations - are collecting money for the civilian population in Gaza with this event. Tens of thousands of children have died there as a result of the current conflict. Thousands and thousands are suffering from the consequences of the armed conflict. As responsible people, we cannot stand by and do nothing. That is why we have chosen Doctors Without Borders, a reliable aid organization, to donate the proceeds of this event to the suffering children in Gaza.
We condemn the terrorist attack by Hamas on 7 October 2013 in the strongest possible terms and stand with all the victims, hostages and relatives who have been suffering for months in Gaza and Israel as a result of the attack and its consequences. We wish the people there and our whole world much-needed peace!
EksotikMeksotik:
Musical Norientalism! Live bands, selected rare vinyls and digital delicacies - Anatolian funk folk, Kurdish halay, Gazinomüzik, Arabesk, Anatolian & ArabianPsychodelia, electro and hip hop mashups, edits and remixes of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern psychedelic classics, hits from Turkey, Greece, the Middle East, Israel, Palestine, Egypt, Maghreb, North Africa, the Balkans, Berlin, North Rhine-Westphalia Detroit, Atlanta T.A., Minneapolis Minnesota and also from Memphis/Tennessee amalgamate, together with a pinch of Latin boogaloo, in the brew of passion and the heat of the Southeast.
EksotikMeksotik is a series of events that for years has turned unreservedly to musical traditions from the Balkans, via Greece, Anatolia, the Middle and Far East, the Arabic-speaking regions and back and around the entire Mediterranean region. The idea is to give the musical richness of these regions, which have significantly influenced the Western mainstream, a deserved place in the club landscape. The event series was launched in 2010 by its predecessor "Süper Stereo" in the old Import Export on Goethestraße and has finally established itself under the name "EksotikMeksotik" after the venue moved to its new location in the Kreativquartier. Founding members and residents from the very beginning were Tuncay Acar aka DJ Süperfly, Güblin Ünlü aka DJ Ü and Miriam Schickler aka Miranda de la Frontera.
The organizers decided from the outset not to run a single-track cultural event. Instead, all languages, cultural socializations and religions have always been welcome on stage and in the audience at EksotikMeksotik.
