The performance “leere” consists exclusively of field recordings from the former shopping center—now the vacant Schwabencenter Augsburg. The sounds were created spontaneously using only objects or materials found on site. Some of the recordings were manipulated afterward, while others can be heard in their natural form. “leere” is an exploration of the unique atmosphere of the place in its current state. The sounds do not attempt to capture either the past or the future, but rather reflect the present from various abstract perspectives. Listeners thus explore the site guided by a vague, imaginary tour and experience a journey into the unknown, even if the Schwabencenter itself is familiar to them.

The performance takes an acousmatic approach and takes place in complete darkness. The volume is mostly very low and is counterbalanced by various dynamic outbursts. Due to the near absence of visual stimuli—merely a few lights emanating from the electronic instruments—the listeners’ attention is directed inward and intensified.Sascha Stadlmeier (b. 1977) has been releasing electroacoustic music through his project EMERGE since 2003 on international labels such as Drone Records, Tâalem, aufabwegen, and Frozen Light. In addition to his compositional work at the intersection of musique concrète, drone, and noise, he has been increasingly active in the field of free improvisation since 2016. Alongside live electronics, he employs guitar, bass, and microphoned objects. A central focus of his work is collaborations with other musicians from a wide variety of styles, including If,Bwana, Doc Wör Mirran, Toy Bizarre, and Ralf Wehowsky, among others. His extensive concert schedule both domestically and abroad has taken him to France, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Scandinavia, Russia, the Baltic States, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Georgia, and Armenia, among other places. He has presented his music at numerous international festivals, such as the Avantgarde Festival, lab30, 20 Years of MGNM, Zasavje Noisefest, Ecological Sound of Varna Fest, and Autistic Campaign Fest. In addition to his work as a composer and performer, Stadlmeier has created various sound installations and a radio composition for the WDR Studio for Acoustic Art.

The label he runs, attenuation circuit, has established itself since 2010 as an important platform for the international experimental music scene and has released works by over 100 artists from numerous countries to date. attenuation circuit also regularly organizes concerts featuring mostly experimental music in Augsburg. Sascha Stadlmeier is a founding member of “jetzt:musik!”, the Augsburg Society for New Music.
