Enno Poppe: im wald (2020 / 2021)

In the organizer's words:

Audiovisual installation for "Wald" for four string quartets (2010)

In his ensemble work "Wald" (Forest), ACHT BRÜCKEN portrait composer Enno Poppe explored the "home of occidental middle-class music" with the string quartet.

He tweaks the movement and discourse and sends four quartets on an expedition. In an orchestral arrangement of video screens, this becomes a virtual and physical biotope - a concert as an audiovisual installation that moves into the Central Library for the duration of Cologne's ACHT BRÜCKEN festival.

The project is the result of a collaboration between the composer and WARPED TYPE, the Düsseldorf visual arts collective led by Andreas Huck and Roland Nebe.

In terms of composition, concepts that Poppe had already used years earlier in "Herz" and "Tier" are continued here. The perspective has gradually expanded from the organ to the organism to its habitat. The individual tone has lost its contour, it is set in motion, melts into a stream of string glissandi and is merely a transitional stage without defined coordinates in time and space. Reflecting the fluid acoustic events in a moving image seems to be a logical step.

The installation takes place in the event area of the Central Library. It lasts 30 minutes.

Playtime: Monday to Sunday, 1pm and 2pm, Saturday and Sunday additionally at 4pm

A cooperation with the ACHT BRÜCKEN Festival. Supported by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
