Opening of the exhibition JAKOB LENA KNEBL AND ASHLEY HANS SCHEIRL - PASSAGE on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 7 pm.

The speakers will be:

Following the speeches, there will be performances by students from the Time Based Media class of Prof. Angela Bulloch (HfBK) and the Transmedia Art class of Jakob Lena Knbel (University of Applied Arts Vienna).

Jakob Lena Knebl (*1970, Baden) and Ashley Hans Scheirl (*1956, Salzburg) are among the most dazzling personalities in international contemporary art. Their works have been shown at major art exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale and Documenta and were most recently on display at the Palais de Tokyo, Paris. With PASSAGE, the last exhibition developed together with Harald Falckenberg during his lifetime, the Deichtorhallen Hamburg is now dedicating its first major presentation in Germany to the duo and presenting the Falckenberg Collection in a completely new light.

The range of references here spans from the grotesque to black romanticism to art nouveau and cyber aesthetics. There are references to Mary Shelley, Ada Lovelace, Luigi Colani, Hector Guimard, etc .For the first floor, the artists have developed new works for Hamburg, complemented by an overview of Ashley Hans Scheirl's large-format paintings from recent years.

The exhibition is complemented on the third and fourth floors by works by students from Prof. Angela Bulloch's Time Based Media class at the HFBK and works by students and alumni from Jakob Lena Knebl's Transmedia Art class at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Knebl is always keen to share the stage with budding artists.
