The connection between language and music is as old as human history. In rituals, religious ceremonies and great storytelling traditions, word and sound merge into a unity that goes far beyond pure information. With Nirgendland/Nessunluogo, Etta Scollo takes up this tradition and dedicates herself to the poems of Mascha Kaléko.

Since her first encounter with Kaléko's poetry, Scollo has been accompanied by the idea of reinterpreting these texts musically. The poems, characterized by the experience of exile, the search for identity and subtle irony, tell of home and uprootedness - themes that have lost none of their topicality to this day. The poem "Kein Kinderlied" in particular inspired the title piece "Nirgendland/Nessunluogo" and became the anchor of the entire project.

Musically, the result is a multi-layered mesh of chanson, chamber music timbres and haunting vocal pieces. Between tender, almost intimate moments and powerful passages, a musical panorama unfolds that sensitively carries Kaléko's words and at the same time continues to think independently. Instrumental pieces also open up spaces for reflection and remembrance.

Nirgendland/Nessunluogo sees itself as an artistic remembrance project and as a bridge between times and cultures. Scollo makes audible how powerful Kaléko's words still are today - and how music can give them a new, universal home. An evening between poetry and sound, between past and present.
