In 2025, Belarusian author Alhierd Bacharevič received the Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding for "Europe's Dogs". In his haunting novel, he paints a bleak picture of Europe's future, in which nationalism, isolation and violence dominate the social climate. At the center are six people who live in a Europe that has segregated all "foreigners" - their stories intertwine to create a polyphonic panorama about exclusion, identity and the destructive power of political ideologies.
Bacharevič's novel is frighteningly topical and provocative - a literary warning against falling back into old patterns. The book is now banned in Belarus.
The novel was published in German in 2024 in a translation by Thomas Weiler, who has already won several awards for his German translations of works from the Slavic-speaking world, most recently the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in the translation category. He will host the event.

Launch of the literature series STIMMEN AUS OSTEUROPA - GEHEN ODER BLEIBEN?
A collaboration between the Dresden Municipal Libraries, the Saxon State and University Library Dresden (SLUB) and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation Saxony.
The launch is a joint event of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra and the aforementioned organizations.
