In the organizer's words:
German premiere
Plot by Manfred Trojahn in three acts
Text by Manfred Trojahn using three poems by Rainer Maria Rilke from "Sonnets to Orpheus"
In German language with German surtitles
Manfred Trojahn retells the old myth - not Orphée, but Eurydice takes center stage here. At last, she also gets something like a biography. When their eyes cross on the train, Orphée and Eurydice fall in love at first sight. Orphée is a searching young artist. Eurydice, on the other hand, has already experienced a lot. She has experienced love, suffered loss and now longs for Pluto, the god of death, in the underworld. During the irreversible train ride to death, Eurydice is constantly plagued by her past and haunted by her former lovers. Orphée and Eurydice's budding love is thus repeatedly disturbed by the intervention of another. In reality, however, it is Pluto who visits them in various guises. The train approaches its destination, which is transformed into a boat with Pluto at the helm. He leads Eurydice down into the underworld. Orphée decides to follow Eurydice, but first encounters Proserpina in this world between life and death. She tries to persuade him not to bring Eurydice back, but Orphée does not want to let his beloved go. The couple meet again in the underworld. Orphée offers her the chance to return with him to the world of the living, but what will Eurydice decide?
