How do emotions shape our society - and why are modern democracies becoming emotionally unbalanced? The internationally renowned sociologist Eva Illouz will be presenting her book "Explosive Modernity", published in 2024, in Aachen - a penetrating analysis of the emotional driving forces of our time - and will be in conversation with Jürgen Kippenhan.
Illouz shows how emotions such as fear, anger, hope and shame shape political dynamics, deepen social divisions and influence our lives under capitalism. In clear, accessible language, she links personal experiences with major social issues - from identity and social inequality to populism and the crises of liberal democracy.
