Faces of the Blues

Exhibition by Robert Richter at the Kunstforum:
Over the past seven years, singer/songwriter Robert Richter, who has deep roots in the blues, has developed into an enthusiastic artist in the field of linocuts. What began as a mood for experimentation quickly developed into a passion and a body of work comprising numerous linocuts was created. Initially in classic black and white, then increasingly multicolored. The connection to the blues is easily recognizable in the extensive portraits, which mostly depict old masters of this music. Robert Richter grew up in Munich and in Sydney/Australia, which gives his way of looking at things in general a special direction.
Many people have already become acquainted with linocuts in simple form at elementary school. But how multifaceted this technique really is is often overlooked. Most of the pictures in this exhibition are portraits of more or less well-known musicians, who are often only known to an interested public. Nevertheless, they have made a significant contribution to the development of popular music. Some of the pictures are in black and white, most are in color. But even here there are differences. Some pictures were printed on a colored background, some in a more complex multicolored process. This destroys the printing plate, which is used again and again, which is why all images only exist in limited editions and cannot be reprinted.
