One of, if not the most important band in the world and a force to be reckoned with live, thrilling their fans from Melbourne to Memphis, from Tokyo to Toulouse with inexhaustible energy and ingenuity. Since their discovery in 1997, their audience has been growing steadily, uniting punks, headbangers, jazz lovers and world music fans. Even the world of classical music welcomes Fanfare Ciocărlia with open arms and invites them to the most prestigious concert halls and opera houses. Ciocărlia's peppery Balkan funk as a "heavy, heavy monster sound" and their albums have catapulted the band's unmistakable Balkan groove onto the dance floors of clubs worldwide. The band has appeared in various movies. Ralf Marschalleck accompanied the wild dozen on a European tour in "Iag Bari - Brass On Fire" and in Fatih Akin's film "Gegen die Wand", the band rocked Hamburg clubs. They graced the cover of the book "Princes Amongst Men" (Garth Cartwright's acclaimed work about Roma music from the Balkans) and Sacha Baron Cohen commissioned a brass band version of the biker anthem "Born to Be Wild" and "Just the 2 of us" for the soundtrack of his "Borat" comedies. They serve as a role model for countless DJs and bands, as Fanfare Ciocărlia's reinterpretations of Western classics such as the James Bond theme or Duke Ellington's "Caravan" show how they can effortlessly integrate any music into their own sound cosmos with their brass instruments. Fanfare Ciocărlia has released ten albums to date, all of which have topped the European world music charts. Their cult DVD "Brass on Fire", according to the British music magazine Songlines, "...sets new standards for music documentaries..."
