Das Fantasy Filmfest 2023 macht einfach tierisch Spaß: Mit DOGMAN – dem neuen Film von Regiemeister Luc Besson, in dem ein preisverdächtiger Caleb Landry Jones mit rund 30 vierbeinigen Held:innen an seiner Seite die Hauptrolle übernimmt – starten wir mit einem wahren Paukenschlag ins Programm und schließen mit dem nicht nur für Phobiker:innen ungemütlichen Spinnenhorror VERMIN ab.
Das Centerpiece THE ANIMAL KINGDOM liefert gleich einen ganzen Zoo fantastischer Kreaturen, zudem haben wir noch verrückte Katzen – MAD CATS – und mit SLOTHERHOUSE den ersten Faultier-Slasher im Gepäck. Das Fantasy Filmfest 2023 hat eindeutig ein Herz für Tiere!
Aber das diesjährige Programm ist auch visuell sehr stark, zum Beispiel dank Bertrand Mandicos neuer künstlerischer Vision CONANN, dem osteuropäischen Hochglanz-Sciencefiction RESTORE POINT, oder den tollen Animationen: Pablo Bergers ergreifendes Abenteuer ROBOT DREAMS und die Sciencefiction-Dystopie MARS EXPRESS. Auch das Kino aus Asien zeigt sich wieder von seiner mitreißendsten Seite: Vom koreanischen Weltraum-Blockbuster THE MOON bis hin zum großen chinesischen Erfolgshit und Mystery-Thriller LOST IN THE STARS oder Soi Cheangs neuem Serienkillerhorror MAD FATE.
Atemlose Action liefern euch garantiert der Publikumsliebling THE ROUNDUP: NO WAY OUT und Xavier Gens‘ knallharter FARANG, eiskalten Horror bietet dagegen THE SEEDING. Und wenn dann noch eine Zombie-Komödie von den TURBO KID-Macher:innen dabei ist – WE ARE ZOMBIES – und sich Nicolas Cage in SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL neunzig Minuten ungebremst auf der Leinwand austoben darf, können wir getrost behaupten:
Das 37. Fantasy Filmfest lässt wenige Wünsche offen und hat wieder eine pralle Auswahl zu bieten!
The Fantasy Filmfest 2023 will be a furry edition: We open the program with a real bang, namely DOGMAN – the new film by master director Luc Besson, in which an award-worthy Caleb Landry Jones takes the lead role with about 30 four-legged heroes at his side – and we close it with the spider horror film VERMIN, which is not only unsettling for the spider-phobics among us.
THE ANIMAL KINGDOM, this year’s centerpiece, brings a whole menagerie of fantastic creatures, and we also have crazy cats – MAD CATS – and the first sloth slasher in festival history: SLOTHERHOUSE. Fantasy Filmfest 2023 certainly cares about animals! But this year's program is very strong on a visual level too, for example thanks to Bertrand Mandico's new artistic vision, CONANN, the glossy science fiction RESTORE POINT from Eastern Europe, or the great animation films: Pablo Berger's poignant adventure ROBOT DREAMS and the science fiction dystopia MARS EXPRESS. From the Korean space blockbuster THE MOON to the enormous Chinese success and mystery thriller LOST IN THE STARS or Soi Cheang's new serial killer horror film MAD FATE, Asian cinema returns with its most thrilling side. The crowdpleasers THE ROUNDUP: NO WAY OUT and Xavier Gens' hard-hitting FARANG provide breathless action, while the horrifying THE SEEDING delivers ice-cold terror. And finally, if there is also a zombie comedy from the TURBO KID creators – WE ARE ZOMBIES – and Nicolas Cage rages on the screen for 90 minutes in SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL, we can confidently claim:
the 37th Fantasy Filmfest has a fantastic line-up that leaves little to be desired!
