Audience figures have long been in free fall: the 1977 Halloween night broadcast is the last chance for the late-night talk show "Night Owls" and its presenter Jack Delroy to prove themselves to the public. Accordingly, he and his guests plan the most spectacular horror show of the year: a clairvoyant makes contact with dead relatives before vomiting a huge stream of slime on stage. A doubter attempts to uncover the inexplicable phenomena that haunt the evening. And then there is a parapsychologist accompanied by 13-year-old Lilly, the only survivor of the mass suicide of a satanic sect, who claims to be possessed by the mysterious Mr. Wiggles. While panic spreads behind the scenes about the frightening events and the endangered ratings, the show takes its disastrous course. The last recording was never broadcast... until today.
With LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL, Australian brothers Colin and Cameron Cairnes present a mixture of authentic-looking 1970s television culture, terrifying behind-the-scenes footage and cross-references to classics such as THE EXORCIST. Beyond all expectations, the film tells the bloody story of a night in hell. This is not only the breakthrough for the underrated lead actor David Dastmalchian (DUNE, THE SUICIDE SQUAD), who literally plays his heart out in the role of the late-night host, but is certainly a future midnight classic for the next generation of horror!
