"Festgehalten. Verschleppt aus Deutschland 1933-1945

In the organizer's words:

Between 1938 and 1945, more than 200,000 people were deported from the German Reich. Many of these deportations were documented in photographs—images from nearly seventy German cities have been preserved, and others may still be undiscovered.

Since 2021, the Arolsen Archives’#LastSeenresearch project has been preserving, collecting, and researching these images and making them available in a digital atlas for research, education, and remembrance. The exhibition“Captured” featuresselected photographs of the deportations of Jews, Sinti, and Roma, as well as victims of the Nazi “euthanasia” program. It reveals that deportations took place in public—in broad daylight, observed by perpetrators and bystanders.

At the opening on August 17, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.,Ramona Bräu fromthe Arolsen Archives will speak and provide insights into the project’s work and the significance of the photographic sources.

The exhibition can be visited during the listed opening hours, subject to available space . Information hotline: 034122541000.
