On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Munich Opera Festival last year, the former house tradition of an opening speech was continued: Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, gave the keynote speech as part of a grand ceremony at the National Theater. In 2026, the Festival will once again open with a keynote speech, which will be given in English by the internationally acclaimed artist Jeff Koons in the Prinzregententheater. The musical program will be performed by the Bavarian State Orchestra and vocal soloists and will be announced at a later date.
