Fête de la Musique: CAÏMAN + The Big Other

Lyon-based singer-songwriter Caïman (aka Chloé K. Serme-Morin) craves intensity, haunted forests, winding back roads, telling stories, and refuses to ever sound the same twice. In the dense chorus of her electric guitar, she crafts liberated and crepuscular incantations. Often described as a Patti Smith from Lyon combined with Marika Hackman or Liz Fraser (Cocteau Twins), Caïman paints an amplified watercolor just like the creatures she summons: dark, tender, sincere, and steeped in tales of metamorphosis, insurrection, and magic.

The Big Other are a young up-and-coming dream punk band from Leipzig. Between hard riffs and dreamy melodies, between brute angry punk and spherical ballads, they explore their own musical space. Musically, the aim is to play artistically around a border area between waking and sleeping, dream and reality. Gathered around lead singer Senta, who seeks to express the simultaneous loneliness and search for connection of the late modern subject in her lyrics, the band accompanies these lyrical excursions with a sound that systematically dissolves all categories. Their inspiration comes from bands such as R.E.M., Refused, Slowdive and a whole lot of speed; a balancing act between Vernisage, Adorno, burnt cigarettes and cold tea.
