Field recording Workshop – Felicity Mangan

Felicity Mangan's field recording workshop takes the form of a quasi-bioacoustic field trip, a playful take on bioacoustic monitoring: a practice that enables scientists to observe, listen to, and care for changing acoustic ecologies. Participants engage in their own form of monitoring within Weimar’s urban context, paying attention to the microsonic environments that emerge amid the rhythms of everyday life.

Working with portable recording equipment, the group explores listening through resonating found objects. These objects become hearing aids or quasi-scientific listening devices, facilitating acts of eavesdropping and recording. The workshop transforms the city into an acoustic field site and explores how listening can be expanded, redirected, and made more attentive to small-scale sonic activity.

Felicity Mangan is an Australian artist and composer based in Berlin. Influenced by wetlands, waterways, and soil, she combines field recording, electroacoustic composition, and electronic music to create immersive quasi-bioacoustic works. Her compositions have been featured in installations, live performances, site-specific settings, and publications, including releases on Longform Editions, Mappa Editions, One Instrument, and other labels.
