With the rise of authoritarian parties, the performing arts are coming under immense pressure. From defamatory questions in parliaments to explicit threats of violence, numerous collectives and theaters are currently experiencing that their art is perceived as a threat in the far-right spectrum - yet they continue their artistic work undeterred.
Janina Möbius' new film commissioned by the Fonds Darstellende Künste takes a look at this development and traces the transformative power of the performing arts in urban and rural areas through theater productions and interviews with Rimini Protokoll, CHICKS*, Katharina Warda, Sibylle Peters, Julia Wissert and many other personalities from the arts and culture, but also in conversation with their audiences.
