Kinovergnügen "The Librarians"

In the organizer's words:

We watch the movie "The Librarians" (OV) together: In the USA, books dealing with topics such as diversity, racism, sex education and LGBTQIA+ have been increasingly banned since 2021. In Texas, for example, the "Krause List" was published with 850 titles that were to be removed from Texas school libraries. The film shows how US librarians are campaigning against such book bans in their districts.

The film will be shown in conjunction with the exhibition Intellectual Freedom - Banned, Removed, Discussed : From book bans in the USA to Nazi censorship in Hamburg to the outcry over a drag queen reading in Munich - the exhibition highlights various contexts in which books are banned, removed or discussed from libraries. It is often not just about books, but also about issues such as freedom of expression, censorship and free access to education.
