The documentary film by Colectivo COPAL from Costa Rica follows twelve Nicaraguan musicians in exile. It tells the story of a life between loss and new beginnings and shows how music, art and communal remembrance give hope, create a sense of belonging and make resistance possible.

The film is in Spanish with English subtitles. The subsequent discussion will be simultaneously translated into Spanish and German.

In the film discussion, Dr. Antonio Monte Casablanca, historian and member of COPAL, will talk about the making of the film and the album as well as the role of art and music in exile. The focus will be on questions of memory, resistance, democracy and human rights.

The film is linked to the political crisis in Nicaragua, which began in 2018 with massive protests and state repression. Since then, many people, including numerous artists and cultural workers, have been forced into exile. In Costa Rica, they have found new forms of cohesion, creative expression and political articulation. The film shows how exile can be characterized not only by uprootedness, but also by community, solidarity and creative power.
