A bit of body horror, but above all an endless declaration of love: in his latest film, legendary director David Cronenberg deals with the loss of his wife, to whom he was married for 43 years. The innovative entrepreneur Karsh (Vincent Cassel) falls into a black hole after the death of his wife (Diane Kruger). Driven by grief, he develops software that enables the bereaved to follow the decomposition process of the deceased live on screen underground. Karsh installs the so-called "shroud" technology throughout the cemetery he runs. But one night, several graves are desecrated, including that of his wife. Karsh sets out to find the perpetrators, and not just because the action jeopardizes his business.

DAVID CRONENBERG (*1943 in Canada) is considered a co-founder of body horror. Films such as Videodrome (1983), The Fly (1986) and Naked Lunch (1991) now enjoy cult status. With his later works such as A History of Violence (2005) or Deadly Promises (2007), he turned more towards drama. FILMFEST HAMBURG not only screened his film Eastern Promises in 2007, but also awarded him the Douglas Sirk Prize.
