Filmfestival "surreal24"

In the organizer's words:

100 years ago, André Breton wrote the first "Manifesto of Surrealism" in Paris. In it, he wrote: "I believe in the future resolution of these seemingly contradictory states of dream and reality in a kind of absolute reality." As if he simply wanted to describe what a movie is...

With "surreal24", the Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection is showing 24 films from the last hundred years that are dedicated to the surreal view of the world.

The film festival ranges from the first surrealist film "The Shell and the Cleric" from 1928 to feature films from the 21st century: "The Liquid Mirror" or "The Froth of Ages". In between are the early works of Man Ray from the 1920s, "The Death of a Poet" by Jean Concteau or "Lemmy Caution vs Alphaville" by Jean Luc Godard, surreal documentaries from France in the 1950s ("The Mad Masters", "Statues Also Die"), examples of surrealism from Great Britain ("Brazil", "Monty Python: the Wonderful World of Gravity") and much more, which today can often only be found on the small streaming tablet.

There will be an introduction to all films.
