A Polish Jew (Danny Kaye) wants to leave France before the German troops reach Paris, and an anti-Semitic Polish colonel (Curd Jürgens) has to head south on a secret mission. Means of transportation are scarce during the war - and petrol anyway. The emergency leads them both into the same Rolls Royce. And then there is the colonel's mistress, who must be rescued ...
