Finissage „Das sieht aus wie eine Gemälde“
In the organizer's words:
That looks like a painting
“That looks like a photo!” Few remarks are heard more often in relation to representational painting than this one. It can be understood as a simple description, an acknowledgment, or a judgment. At the same time, this statement reveals a habit of perception: representational images are often measured and evaluated based on their similarity to photography.
The exhibition title“That Looks Like a Painting” isthereforeintendedless as a description than as an invitation to look more closely and to view painting not only for what it depicts, but also for how it depicts it.
The exhibition brings together diverse works by studentsin Prof. Andreas Orosz’s Figurative Painting classatAlanus University of Arts and Social Sciences. The focus is on subjective perception. The paintings on display are not mere reproductions of references, but translations of a gaze into color, light, and composition. Among the works on view are partial views of bodies, staged still lifes, and night scenes.
The closing reception will take place on Tuesday,July 21, 2026, starting at2:00 p.m.
The closing event willfeaturemusic by singer-songwriterLeonie Janika Puschmann.
