Fiona Grond: Hearts Wide Open

It is said that people on the coast look into the distance, while people in the mountains tend to look inwards. Having grown up at the foot of the Alps, surrounded by forests and lakes, it is therefore not surprising that Fiona Grond's music is characterized by a distinct honesty, vulnerability and naturalness. It is characterized by its delicate tones, by the spaces between the notes, but also by contrasts and frictions and the breaking of expectations and conventions. With Hearts Wide Open, Fiona Grond now turns her innermost self outwards. In a top-class sextet, she presents a new program that moves between chamber jazz, avant-pop and new music, in which delicate compositions meet collective improvisations and cinematic soundscapes. The music always remains delicate, transparent and open. Fragile sound spaces are created that are constantly changing, sometimes clearly structured, sometimes flowing and free. Grond's pieces follow a natural logic that is guided more by attentive listening than by assertion.

The concert will be accompanied by live visuals by Christina Gerg. As an extension of the music, she reacts directly to what is happening. Under the 360° dome of the ESO Supernova Planetarium, sound and image combine to form an immersive whole - not illustratively, but in dialog. Associative, abstract, atmospheric.
