Le Pays à l'envers
Sylvaine Dampierre
FR 2009, documentary, 90'
Sylvaine travels to Guadeloupe to research the origins of her surname Dampierre. She deciphers Creole identities in archives and conversations. Enslavement is etched into the island's collective memory. The director paints a vision of a country in which the landscape, people and music bear powerful witness to a violent history that still resonates.
