The director grew up in the Transkei, which was formally granted full independence from South Africa in 1976 as the first homeland for black people. She was only confronted with the racism of apartheid policy after it was overthrown. Using archive material, Milisuthando interweaves her personal history with that of the country in this intimate essay.
