In March, Christopher Nolan scored big at the Oscars with his film OPPENHEIMER, winning 7 Oscars, including in almost all the main categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Supporting Actor.
Today we are showing his debut feature FOLLOWING, a thrilling neo-noir thriller.

Exactly 25 years lie between Christopher Nolan's box office hit OPPENHEIMER (nominated for 13 Oscars, won 7) and his first work FOLLOWING, which the then literature student made in London with fellow students and acquaintances, a 16mm camera and a budget of just 6,000 dollars. Filming took over a year, as the regular jobs of the cast and crew meant that it was often only possible to shoot on Saturdays. Despite all the adversities, the end result, a small, fine neo-noir thriller, already revealed the enormous talent and preference of the aspiring filmmaker for non-linear storytelling.

A young hack (Jeremy Theobald) cheekily snoops around after strangers. A burglar (Alex Haw) confronts the nosy stalker. The two become buddies. During a tour, Mr. Schreibo meets a girl (Lucy Russell). And things soon get dangerous.
Before MEMENTO and THE DARK KNIGHT, Nolan shot this almost 70-minute B&W low-budget neo-noir flick with a convoluted space/time structure and a sense of voyeurism and claustrophobia. Worth seeing. (Mark Sikora)
