Fotoausstellung "Something Old Something New" von Mareike Foecking

Photo exhibition SOMETHING OLD SOMETHING NEW by Mareike Foecking
The Leica Gallery Düsseldorf presents the exhibition SOMETHING OLD SOMETHING NEW by artist and photographer Mareike Foecking until April 23, 2026. The focus is on multi-part, expansive photo installations that deal with the challenges and upheavals of contemporary visual culture. Foecking's works move between documentary photography and conceptual staging; between analog recording and digital generation. Her series show how strongly real and virtual visual worlds overlap, penetrate and meet in new aesthetic forms today.
Four central series of works will be shown:
- In There Out There: A poetically condensed form of street photography in which reflections, lighting moods and color spaces transform everyday city life into an almost surreal visual world.
- Blocked Shops: Shots from the carnival period on Düsseldorf's Königsallee, in which barricaded luxury facades, logos and spontaneous graffiti collide with each other to create urban visual stagings between consumption and chaos.
- Imagine: A reflection on the origin and future of images, in which analog contact sheets merge with self-produced images and AI-generated visual worlds. The works printed on glass also build a bridge to the beginnings of photography.
- something old, something new: In the diary-like, visual records, the photographer captures everyday moments. In photographic terms, the traditional technology of the Leica R3 and the recording of light on analog film material is combined with a contemporary method of further processing. At the same time, this theme of old and new technology is also reflected in the motifs. Mareike Foecking not only exhibits images in her work, she also puts them up for discussion: How do digital images influence our ideas of reality, society and identity? What role do they play in a time of increasing algorithmic control, political shifts and visual sensory overload?
