In the loose series of events Frag' die Werkstätten, in cooperation with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the diverse trades of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein are presented. Because without workshops, the singers and dancers would have to go on stage in their everyday clothes, would stand on an empty stage without backdrops or would have no blood in murder scenes and no food in banquet scenes.

Where do blood and food come from? Certainly not from the canteen or the butcher, because everything has to be perfectly suited to the production. The props department is responsible for providing blood, the appropriate knives and much more. The second edition of Frag' die Werkstätten will therefore focus on the props department at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, with props master Maik Claßen as our guest. Sascha Förster, head of the TMD, chats with Maik Claßen about the fascination of prop making, current productions and favorite objects from his personal theater history.
