Wangari Maathai (1940 - 2011, Kenya) - a strong woman, resolute, combative and successful. She consistently fought for
environmental protection, women's rights and human rights. She was the first woman in Africa to receive the Nobel Peace Prize (2004). As the founder of the environmental and grassroots movement in Africa, she is affectionately known as the >Mother of Trees<. Wangari Maathai saw the targeted promotion of girls and women as the best prevention of water and other environmental damage. A trailblazer for many girls and women in Africa.

With this series of events, we make the diversity of women's lives visible and tangible. We offer interested parties a cultural space for encounters and exchange. Biographies of women from society, art, church, science, ... will inspire us to reflect on and contribute our own life events and very personal experiences.
Over the course of four evenings, we will gain insights into the lives of four different women's biographies, led by the speaker Beate Mönkedieck (a qualified educationalist who has worked for many years in adult education and as a women's/equal opportunities officer). With this series, she wants to make invisible and forgotten women visible again and give them a voice. How much courage, strength, vision and creativity is gathering dust in archives and old files? Bringing them out, bringing them (back) into the collective memory, learning from their lives, exposing male dominance and giving women a public space for their own strength. This motivates us again and again to search for traces and share them with others.
