There are hardly two people who are more connected to the United States of America than Rieke Havertz and Klaus Brinkbäumer. Both spent formative years in the USA and worked there as journalists. Both were addicted to the country and its people and felt compelled to bear witness at the beginning of the current president's second term in office: In their podcast "OK, America?", they jointly illuminate what's happening overseas and what the consequences of these developments will be.
Books by the two allies are published independently of each other: Rieke Havertz calls hers "Goodbye, America?", Klaus Brinkbäumer his, which will be published shortly after the festival at the end of March, "The American Nightmare". While Klaus Brinkbäumer describes how Donald Trump and his people are irreversibly restructuring society and the political system for the time being, Rieke Havertz reflects on the reassessment of the relationship between the USA and the Germans under the motto "Fascism made in the USA". Together, the two talk about what we can learn from the disaster over there for our disaster here, what opportunities there are and what we need to say goodbye to in order to face the world of tomorrow with confidence.
